Child Care
Launched in 2005, the Child Care Program began as the Child Welfare Program, starting with just 10 vulnerable children. From the beginning, our mission has been to support the holistic well-being of every child—education, health and nutrition, life skills, and overall quality of life.
Who We Serve
Today, the program supports over 100 children from:
- North Sakwa (Bondo Sub-County)
- Asembo (Rarieda Sub-County)
Both located in Siaya County.
Children can join from 4 years old and continue receiving support all the way to university. Those not pursuing university pathways are assisted to join technical and vocational training institutions.
Education & Career Guidance
We walk with every child throughout their education journey by providing:
- Personalized career guidance and counseling
- Regular school and home follow-ups
- Close collaboration with teachers to track progress and address challenges
This ensures each child gets the support and clarity they need to pursue a future aligned with their strengths.
Health & Nutrition Support
Every child in the program receives:
- Quality medical care
- Weekly communal feeding every Saturday
- Balanced meals provided on Thursdays and Saturdays
- Special care for children with additional needs, including HIV support or treatment for malnutrition
- Monthly distributions of enriched porridge flour
Beyond nutrition, the Saturday meals help strengthen a sense of family and belonging within the Arc community.
Life Skills & Practical Training
To prepare children for real-world independence, we offer hands-on training in:
- Tailoring & dressmaking
- Carpentry
- Crochet
- Cooking
- Agriculture
- ICT
- Leap learning
These activities help build creativity, confidence, and practical skills from an early age.
Learning & Reading Culture
Our in-house library provides a safe, quiet space for children to:
- Study effectively
- Access learning materials
- Develop a strong reading culture
- Explore personal interests
